Pre-Conference Walkshop: Creating a Pedestrian and Tram Area at Des Voeux Road Central
This Walkshop, led by the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP), brings participants to walk along Des Voeux Road Central (DVRC) to experience the general planning context and history of the city centre, with an emphasis on problems that hinder a walkable environment for pedestrians. The Walkshop also explores the design potential of DVRC to become a world-class pedestrian and tram precinct that would significantly improve the city centre’s image, quality of environment and urban design. References will be made to HKIP’s urban design proposals. The tour will include two activity spots; the first one unleashs participants’ spatial imagination of DVRC through their five senses. The second one will provide a creative platform for participants to “design your own DVRC” and contribute to this community initiative. The tour will finish with a tram ride along DVRC that highlights its complimentary role in mobility, heritage and urban design.
